Sunday Rundown: That’s What She Read

Sunday Rundown

What have you been reading this week?

Easter went by pretty quickly, didn’t it? I was only at work for 3 days but I still felt exhausted by the time I finished on Friday. Thankfully, I only have a couple of weeks until I go away for a week. I can’t wait and am already thinking about which books I’m going to be taking. Probably more than I could ever read but it’s always good to push yourself. This week hasn’t gone as well as I’d wanted but I have finished a couple of things. What I haven’t done is written all of my usual blog posts. I did miss my usual Friday post but it’s been a busy week. Normal service should resume next week.

Weekly Blog Posts

  • BOOK REVIEW – Shy by Max Porter

I pre-ordered this book a while ago and was so excited to finally read it. So excited, that I started reading it straight away. I knew that it would be a pretty quick read because all of Max Porter’s books tend to be short and hard to put down. But would it be as good as I hoped? Read my review to find out if I enjoyed this as much as his other books.

  • BOOKISH POST My Must Buy Authors

I don’t think I’ve ever been able to definitively answer the question “Who is your favourite author?” because I’m so indecisive. However, there are plenty of authors that I will automatically buy without question. Max Porter, the focus of my review earlier in the week, is one such author. With no other ideas for my other post this week, I decided it was time to bring together my go-to writers. Read my post to see which authors made the list.

Just Read

  • Shy by Max Porter

This arrived last Saturday and I’d finished it by Sunday. Of course, it helped that it was a really short book but it was also a great read. I couldn’t help but finish it in one go. Another absolutely unforgettable book by Max Porter. He’s such a wonderful and different writer.

  • The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

I wasn’t a huge fan of Matt Haig’s Notes on a Nervous Planet, so I wasn’t convinced that I’d like his novels. Still, this sounded interesting so I borrowed it from the library. I listened to it this week at work. Regardless of anything else, I think Carey Mulligan was a good choice of narrator. Normally, I’m not a fan of Hollywood actors doing it.

Currently Reading

  • Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton

It’s been slow going with this one so, I did what I always did and bought the audiobook. Hopefully, that will help me get this finished soon.

Book Haul

I did buy a few books last weekend at Waterstones. They were:

  • Trespasses by Louise Kennedy
  • Adventuremice: Otter Chaos by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre
  • Garth Marenghi’s TerrorTome by Garth Marenghi
  • Villains Academy by Ryan Hammond

Recently Watched

  • TV:
    • Diagnosis Murder -I don’t feel like I’ve watched much TV this week but I did watch quite a few of these last weekend. It’s such a nostalgic treat,.
