February started slowly and I didn’t think I was going to get much read. It has just taken me so long to finish anything this month. I guess that’s mostly down to the book that I read. They didn’t end up being as good as I’d hoped. The kind of books that sound really good but just don’t deliver. On the plus side, I’ve knocked a few long-time members of my TBR off the list and have moved a few more audiobooks into my completed library and out of my not started library. So, what did I read in February?

January was a weird month. The first part seemed super quick. The middle seemed both too quick and too slow. The final part was just excruciatingly slow. Basically, I don’t know really know what day it is and I’m glad the sorry month is over. Hopefully, 2023 is only going to get better. In terms of reading, I didn’t manage to beat last January’s count but I didn’t do too bad considering everything that’s been going on. I also read a fair few books that I’ve been meaning to read for ages, so that’s a big win.

2022 Year Review: the motherbooking stats

books, films, wrap-up

The year was 2022 and things were pretty much back to normal. I say pretty much because there were still plenty of people in my local area wearing masks and I still hadn’t completely gone back to normal. For one thing, I’ve still been avoiding the cinema because it feels like a lot. However, I was socialising more and seeing people again. This meant there was a slight decline in the number of books I read but that’s understandable. Plus, it’s probably a good thing in its own way. On the negative side, there were been a few personal things to deal with but we’ve been luckier than a lot of people. Considering the state of the UK and the world in general, we can’t really complain too much. Let’s hope 2023 sees further improvements all around. Although, now I’ve said that some awful global event is bound to crop up again.

Not only is December over but so is 2022. I can’t believe that we’ve got through another year already. I’m currently preparing my yearly wrap-up post so that will be up next week. For now, we’ll just look back on the last month. It was a slow end to the year but there was a lot going on in December. I actually managed to get a few more in than I expected. Thanks to my Christmas holiday, I managed to up the count from a fairly unremarkable 4.

November seems to have come and gone really quickly. Too quickly to get much reading done. Although, it hasn’t helped that I’ve become slightly obsessed with playing Disney Dreamlight Valley recently as well. I didn’t want to get sucked in but it’s really enjoyable. Like Animal Crossing but with added plot points to follow. I tend to get bored of just arranging my island, so the storyline keeps me going. So, I’ve not read as much as I should have in November but what did I manage to finish?

I had a few books on my October TBR that I wanted to get through. All linked to Halloween in some way. I didn’t get through all of them but I did manage to get a few finished. I also crossed off a few of the books at the top of my general TBR and an anticipated sequel. Who knows what November brings but I feel like I’m ending the month in a good place.

I don’t have much memory if September. I don’t know how we’ve reached the end of it if I’m honest. I certainly didn’t remember any of the books I’d read. It doesn’t feel as though I’ve read anything. Certainly not in the past few weeks. Apparently I just beat last month’s count, so I’m pretty happy with that.

In previous years, I’ve started off slowly and sped up as I got closer to December. This year, it feels as though the opposite is happening. I’m only getting slower. It doesn’t help that I’ve had a lot of social engagements recently. It’s also due to a lack of motivation. Maybe 2022 had too strong a start and I’m burnt out?

So, July didn’t exactly work out as I intended. It started with me getting Covid and I never really made up for lost reading time. Then my final week was spent on holiday with my 3-year-old niece and 1-year-old nephew. Meaning there wasn’t much time for reading in between playing and going on adventures. I still managed to get a few things off my TBR, so it’s not a complete disaster and I’m still ahead of my yearly target.

Where the heck did June go? I can’t believe it. My friend gets married tomorrow and it’s snuck up so suddenly. It feels like only yesterday that we were madly trying to decide on a bridesmaid dress and now we’re a day away from the actual wedding. That’s also my excuse for not getting much reading done this month. I’ve had stuff to do. Still, I think I’ve done okay. I barely touched my Pride TBR but that’s hardly new.
