Film Review – Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022)

films, reviews

Rating: 2 out of 5.

How are we not over the Minions by now? As good as I thought Despicable Me was, I always found them annoying. I didn’t need there to be two spin-off movies based around these irritating yellow sidekicks. But here we are. We can’t seem to get away from them. I can only hope that other people have started to feel the same way and we won’t have to put up with much more of them. Considering this burning hatred, you might be asking why I decided to watch this film for today’s review. The answer is a familiar one: time. I ran out of time to watch something and this was less than 90 minutes long. I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of it but it certainly worked within my time constraints. Also, every time I turn on the TV, Sky are telling me that it’s available to watch. It felt like something was telling me to watch it.

Film Review – The King’s Man (2021)

Rating: 2 out of 5.

I know that a lot of people didn’t like the second Kingsman film but I really did. Was it messier than the first one? Yes, but it was still fun. Of course, I tend to think that anything with guns and secret agents is worth watching. So, I was excited about the prequel film. That was before I’d seen anything about it. Then every trailer I saw just increased my excitement. Thanks to Covid, the release was delayed and I’ve only just got round to it. Would it be everything I wanted it to be?

Friday Favourites: 2020 Film Releases

films, Friday Favourites

mv5byzayogjkmzutmmrjys00ngjmlwexngetyzi2yjvmmmqzmzfixkeyxkfqcgdeqxvymtkxnjuynq4040._v1_2019 was definitely the year of Marvel. I know that there were countless great films released last year but Endgame was a movie event like no other. Whatever you think about the film in general, you can’t deny that it was one of the biggest film moments in the last decade. It was the culmination of so many years of work and saw a whole host of characters come together for the biggest superhero film of all time. There’s a reason that I keep crying every time I see the portals scene: all of our favourite characters in one place trying to save the world. It was something that we never thought would work but it did. So, 2020 has a lot to live up to. Can anything next year bring people together in the same way? There are plenty of films coming up next year that I’m really looking forward to so it made sense to discuss them during this week’s Friday Favourites. Obviously, this isn’t all of them but I could have added loads to this list. 10 seemed like a sensible amount.
