In previous years, I’ve started off slowly and sped up as I got closer to December. This year, it feels as though the opposite is happening. I’m only getting slower. It doesn’t help that I’ve had a lot of social engagements recently. It’s also due to a lack of motivation. Maybe 2022 had too strong a start and I’m burnt out?

So, July didn’t exactly work out as I intended. It started with me getting Covid and I never really made up for lost reading time. Then my final week was spent on holiday with my 3-year-old niece and 1-year-old nephew. Meaning there wasn’t much time for reading in between playing and going on adventures. I still managed to get a few things off my TBR, so it’s not a complete disaster and I’m still ahead of my yearly target.

Bookish Post – 2022 Mid-Year Review

books, wrap-up

Thanks to Covid, I missed the actual mid-year point to post this review but that’s not going to stop me. Before writing this post, I felt like I’d been having a good year but not as good as last year. There’s a definite difference between the amount of socialising I’ve been doing this year compared to last year. So, I was sure my reading had taken a hit. Turns out I was wrong. Either I’ve been reading shorter books or I’m just getting better at it.

Where the heck did June go? I can’t believe it. My friend gets married tomorrow and it’s snuck up so suddenly. It feels like only yesterday that we were madly trying to decide on a bridesmaid dress and now we’re a day away from the actual wedding. That’s also my excuse for not getting much reading done this month. I’ve had stuff to do. Still, I think I’ve done okay. I barely touched my Pride TBR but that’s hardly new.

May was a bit of a non-month really. Work has been super busy compared to last year for obvious reasons. Then I’ve had a load of personal commitments to fit in. All meaning that I’ve not had as much time for reading. This has been my worst month for a while but I’m choosing not to focus on that. Instead I’m celebrating the fact that I’ve finished some books I’ve had on my list for a while.

March started out pretty slowly because of my birthday. It’s always the way. Suddenly I have loads of social events to fit in and I end up not reading as much. But, thanks to a few quick audiobooks, I managed to get my number up. I also didn’t have a bad month in terms of ratings. Mostly pretty good and nothing as bad as February.

February has finally come to an end, thank god! It’s been the longest month for me and I’m glad to see the back of it. My main aim for reading this month was to focus on romance and love. I read more stories about love than I think I read in 2021. Not all of my reads were successful but, thankfully, there were plenty of highs to balance that out. Here’s how my month went.

The end of January really snuck up on me this year. Normally, it’s a long month but I feel like it’s flown by in 2022. Although, I felt the same last year, so maybe it’s not a good sign? We don’t want 2022 to go the same way as 2021. Unless we’re talking about how much I read. I’m not sure I’ll best my total books this year but I’ll give it a try. Thankfully, we got off to a pretty good start this month.

2021 Year Review: the motherbooking stats

books, films, wrap-up

So, 2021 didn’t exactly see life go back to normal but I am, at least, out of the house again. It feels good to not be shielding as much but, with cases rising, I suspect I’m going to have to start being careful again. Ah well, it just gives me more time to read. Last year I was so close to reading 100 books that I was secretly hoping to pass that this year. However, I didn’t want to put the pressure on and only set a target of 60. I knew that would be possible but would motivate me to keep reading. Did I manage to smash my target or did everything fall apart?
