What have you been reading this week?
I’m running a little behind this week thanks to a particularly hectic weekend. Well, a hectic Saturday that ended in a Eurovision party and a Sunday spent recovering. Meaning I’m late getting my weekly rundown written. Not that there’s much to report. I’ve only just finished the book I was reading last week because work pretty much destroyed me last week. I had no energy for reading beyond two chapters a night. I need to get back on form this week.

- BOOK REVIEW – Our Hideous Progeny by C.E. McGill
It’s been a while since I last requested something on Netgalley so I admit that my shelf has been a little neglected of late. I’d completely forgotten that I’d been sent a copy of this book and felt guilty enough to pick it up before my holiday. Read my review to find out if I regretted not reading this sooner.
- FILM REVIEW – Bullet Train (2022)
I’ve never been keen on the Disney live-action remakes so I normally would have given this one a miss. However, I was in a bit of a Peter Pan mood following my recent trip to Moat Brae: the birthplace of Peter Pan. Read my review to see if this remake was one of the better remakes.
- BOOK REVIEW – The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels by Janice Hallett
It took me ages to write this review. So long that I had to post it late. I just didn’t know how I felt. Janice Hallett’s debut novel was so much fun but her second left me cold. I so wanted this to reach the same heights as The Appeal. Find out if it did by reading my review.
Just Read
- Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Hyped books. I just shouldn’t read them. It always ends up taking me ages to finish. This one started out so well but the last week has been super slow going. There was a point when I never thought I’d get to the end. Not that U wasn’t enjoying it. It just didn’t grab me enough to
- Villains Academy by Ryan Hammond
After Birnam Wood, I needed something quick and easy to read. This was the perfect choice. A middle grade story about a school for villains. Not only did I finish it in a matter of hours but it was just a lot of fun silliness. The kind of book that I’d have loved as a kid.

- Our Hideous Progeny by C. E. McGill
I wasn’t really sure what to pick up next because of the holiday. So I went onto my Kindle and remembered that I had this ARC to get through. I decided it was probably time to take a look. I’ll hopefully finish it fairly quickly when I’m away so I can fit in plenty more reading.
Book Haul
To kill time, I went into my local bookshop during my lunch one day last week. Of course I walked out of there with a book. Although, in my defence it’s a collection of flash fiction that is raising money to fight fuel poverty. It’s called Fuel and all of the stories are prize-winners. I’m excited about it.
Recently Watched
- TV:
- Bridgerton – Netflix is constantly pushing the Bridgerton prequel on us and I’ve tried to ignore it. It didn’t work as I decided it was time to watch season 2 of the popular series. Of course, I had to rewatch the first season before I did that.
So what do you actually do for work? You mention it a lot, but I have no idea and if you’ve given details before, I’ve forgotten them.

I have been moaning about it a lot recently. Should probably stop that. I work in marketing, which is not interesting enough to talk about so often!

Thanks. You might even have mentioned it before.
For the record, anything can be interesting if you frame it in a certain way 😉

I agree with that. I’m just a bit jaded when it comes to my current company.
