What have you been reading this week?
This has been a stressful week at work and I haven’t been sleeping well. So, this hasn’t been a great week for anything. Very little reading has been done and I’ve fallen behind with writing. I’m just glad it’s over. For one thing, it meant I could spend all of yesterday doing absolutely nothing. It also means that I’ve only got to get through 4 more days because I’m off for a week. I’m heading to Scotland, so I’ll be taking a break from the blog. Hopefully, by the time I get back, I’ll be back in the flow again. It also means I’ll have a week of relaxation and time to read. Good for getting a few books off my TBR.
Weekly Blog Posts
- BOOK REVIEW – The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
This is one of those books that everyone always raves about but I was never convinced it was for me. I’d read Notes on a Nervous Planet a few years ago and didn’t enjoy it. Matt Haig’s brand of self-help just seemed to be a bunch of platitudes and was both simplistic and unrealistic. Although, I wondered if his fiction might be more enjoyable. Read my review to find out if this lived up to the hype.
- BOOK REVIEW – Adventuremice Otter Chaos by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre
I definitely picked this book up because of the title. I’m not the kind of person who can resist a pun and an otter pun is even better. I didn’t know anything about this book but it certainly looked cute. I knew it would be a quick read and it’s always handy to have some of those around. Read my review to see if this was as good as it looked.
- FILM REVIEW – Love Sarah
One of my favourite chefs helped produce cakes for this film so I had to check it out. Yotam Ottolenghi is namechecked quite early in the film and I do admit that all of the food looked fantastic. I didn’t know anything about it but my love of Celia Imrie convinced me it had to have something going for it. See if this film was as delicious as the Ottolenghi cakes by reading my review.

- Adventuremice Otter Chaos by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre
I needed a book to review this week for my Wednesday post. Thankfully, I’d bought this little beauty over Easter weekend. As it’s only a short kid’s book, it didn’t take very long but I really enjoyed it. Well, as much as a grown adult can enjoy a book intended for 6-year-olds.
Currently Reading
- Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton
I’m getting further with this but I haven’t been reading much this week. Hopefully I’ll have this done today because I need something to write about for Monday. I also don’t want to still be reading it when I go on holiday on Friday.
Book Haul
Nothing new this week but I have a pre-order arriving on Monday. Just in time for me to go on holiday at the end of next week. I just need to decide which books I’m taking with me.
Recently Watched
- TV:
- Diagnosis Murder -I don’t feel like I’ve watched much TV this week but I did watch quite a few of these last weekend. It’s such a nostalgic treat,.
Sorry to hear you haven’t been sleeping well. That just makes everything else that much tougher 😦

Doing ok now that Mrs B is asymptomatic with her crohns/iletus flair up.
I am reading almost faster than I can review though. Trying to figure out ways to slow down and still enjoy reading.
