What have you been reading this week?
I’ve to get through 3 more days at work and then I have a few days off for Easter. I can’t wait. I’ve got 6 days of rest, relaxation and plenty of chocolate. It sure beats the stress we’re going through at the moment. It will also give me the chance to get some proper reading done. I read a lot of audiobooks last month but didn’t finish any physical books. I also had to roll my current read over and I always hate doing that. I feel like it sets the month up badly. It’s just that I’m so bad at reading non-fiction. I don’t know how to get better. Any tips would be welcome.
Weekly Blog Posts
- BOOK REVIEW – Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch
As I mentioned in my post, I picked this up by mistake thinking I already owned it. It turned out that I actually own The Ashes of London but I figured it was still worth a read. After all, I quite like urban fantasy novels and this had a crime element. Surely it was going to be entertaining on some level? Read my review to find out if this was a pleasant accident.
- FILM REVIEW –The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Pedro Pascal is having a bit of a moment right now and I’m all for it. I’m not quite as obsessed as the majority of the internet but I can’t say I’m upset to see him everywhere. After seeing the clip of him and Nicolas Cage so often on Instagram, I decided it was finally time to watch this film. I know Cage’s films are pretty hit-and-miss but how bad could this one be? Read my review to see if this is as good as the internet is trying to tell me it is.
- BOOKISH POST – March 2023 Reading Wrap-Up
I don’t want to get into the habit of commenting on how quickly time is moving but, boy, time is moving quickly. It feels like March had only just started and I’m already writing my monthly wrap-up. I read some interesting books last month and crossed a few off my TBR. How good were they? Check my post to find out.
Just Read
- The Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch
I borrowed this from the library and listened to it at work. It was actually a pretty good read for the office because there wasn’t as much world-building as I expected. It wasn’t as great as I was hoping but it also wasn’t terrible. I’m not sure I’ll read any more but I might.
- Circe by Madeline Miller
I’ve heard so many people say that they prefer this to The Song of Achilles that I had to get around to it eventually. I loved TSOA even if it did feel a bit too YA for me. So, I was ready to fall in love with this one. Did I? I don’t think so but I’m still processing. Wait for my review tomorrow.

Honestly, I’m so bad at reading non-fiction. This is a wonderful book but I’m I’m taking so long with it. So I’ve downloaded the audiobook. I’m hoping it will help me get through more than a chapter a night.

Nothing that I can remember but who knows. I’m all over the place this week.

- I haven’t really committed to anything this week. I just can’t keep my attention on anything at the moment. There are plenty of series that I should get round to watching but I’m just never in the mood.
For non-fiction, all I can say is good luck. I struggle to read 1 non-fiction a year, so I definitely don’t have any tips 🙂

I normally don’t manage any but I thought a biography of Terry Pratchett would be a good way in. I was wrong.
