What have you been reading this week?
Well, after feeling like I’m finally getting back on track with my reading, I’ve had a bumpy week. My main read is non-fiction, which always takes me longer to get through. Then I’m not entirely engaged with the book I’ve been listening to at work. I think it has a lot of potential but it’s a slow burner. Too slow for what I’m looking for. I’ll definitely finish them both but it might take a bit of time. I guess it’s also been a pretty busy week which hasn’t helped. I’ve not really felt like reading on an evening and have just been super tired. I’ve got just two weeks until my next time off work, so I’m going to be counting down the days for a while.
Weekly Blog Posts
- BOOK REVIEW – The Ice by Laline Paull
The Bees is a book that I have never quite gotten over in the years since I read it. So, I was very excited to read her follow-up novel. Excited but a little scared to read it. That’s why it took so long. I finally got around to it but would it be as good as her debut? Read my review to find out.
- BOOK REVIEW –A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes
I’ was blown away by how’ve been reading a few retellings of Greek mythology recently and not all of them have been everything I wanted them to be. So, I was a bit nervous to pick this one up. I’d had a copy of it for a while and it was one of those books that everyone raves about. Was this another example of everyone hyping up a disappointing book? Read my review to see if this was a retelling I could get behind.
- FILM REVIEW – Top Gun: Maverick
I thought it was a joke when everyone raved about the Top Gun sequel. I just didn’t believe that it could actually be the masterpiece that so many were dubbing it. Then it was nominated for an Oscar and I had to find out what the big deal was. So, I watched it last week. Would I feel the same as everyone else or would it be a huge disappointment? Find out by reading my review.
Just Read
Nothing yet. It’s very frustrating.
Currently Reading
- Terry Pratchett: A Life With Footnotes by Rob Wilkins
I’m slightly further ahead with this one but it wasn’t the best week. I’ve been getting over a terrible cold and have been too exhausted to think about reading. I just fall asleep as soon as I get into bed.
- The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper
I’m just under halfway through this one. I thought I was really going to love it but I’m not as engaged as I should be at this point. Maybe it wasn’t the right time to start or maybe it’s just me. Either way, I’m finding this a bit off. Hopefully, it will pick up before the end.
Book Haul
I spent my birthday book vouchers this week and pre-ordered a few more books. It was a fairly big haul but it doesn’t really count does it? I bought:
- The House of Whispers by Anna Mazzola
- Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan
- The Maiden by Kate Foster
- Masters of Death by Olivie Blake

- TV:
- The Simpsons – It always comes back to this, right? At least I’m getting my money’s worth from my Disney+ subscription.
- The Last of Us – I decided to finish the series. I’m way more in love with Pedro Pascal than I was before and I was already pretty in love. In terms of the show, it was fine. Not quite my thing but a pretty good watch.
- Daisy Jones & the Six – I loved the book, so I was excited to see the adaptation. I know there are still a few episodes to go but I’ve got some thoughts coming tomorrow.
