What have you been reading this week?

November was a bit of a whirlwind, right? It was the most stressed I’ve been at work and it definitely affected my reading habits. I can’t see this changing over December as I’m already feeling anxious about how much we’ve got a lot going on right now. We’re a team of 2 but management seems to think we can do the work of at least double that. It doesn’t help that I’ve not been able to use much of my remaining holiday, so I could really do with a break. A few days here and there doesn’t make much difference. I’d just love a week of rest, reading and relaxtion. Roll on the few days we have off over Christmas.

• BOOK REVIEW – Celestial Navigation by Anne Tyler

This is my 5th Anne Tyler book of 2022 and it’s one that I didn’t know anything about. It certainly sounded like and interesting story and had that familiar Anne Tyler approach. I’ve mostly enjoyed her other books but would the trend carry on? Check out my review to find out.

• BOOKISH POST – November 2022 Reading Wrap-Up

November came and went in the blink of an eye, which means my reading wrap-up kind of snuck up on me. I’ve not been doing a great job with reading in the past few months. I’ve been distracted, tired and stressed, which has caused a bit of a reading block. How much did I manage to finish? Check out my post to find out.

• FILM REVIEW – House of Gucci

I’ll admit that I mostly wanted to watch this film because of Adam Driver. My interest in Gucci isn’t great and I didn’t know a lot about the family. It sounded like a pretty interesting story but I’m never sure about true crime movies. Once Hollywood gets its hands on something like this it always ends up being over-the-top. Would this be a glorified soap opera or something more? Find out by reading my review.

• Leila and the Blue Fox by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

This was my last read of last month and one that I was very much looking forward to. I really loved Julia and the Whale and could see this being more of the same. What I got was possibly even better. More emotionally damaging that I’d expected and with some very important messages about our society.

• Secret Rules to Being a Rockstar by Jessamyn Violet

I realised that I wasn’t going to finish this in November so I had a quick break for a day. Now I’m back onto it and I’m back with it. I’ve got a lot to read this month, so I need to get a move on. I’m also enjoying it so far, which makes it easier to read. Provided I’m in the right mindset.

Book Haul

I made the mistake of going into Waterstones to buy a Christmas present. Next thing I know, I’m walking out with a copy of She and her Cat by Makoto Shinkai. I’ve been eyeing it up for a whole and I figured it could be a present to myself. I think it’s going to be super cute.

  • The Office – I’ve recently started rewatching the American version of this show. I know it’s not as good as the British version but it still has plenty of funny moments.
