What have you been reading this week?
The first week in October has come and gone. I’ve finished 2 books and have started 2 more. If I can keep up this pace, I might be able to get back on track with my reading. I have so my ARCs that I haven’t ready yet. I think most of them have been released by now. I’m trying not to think about them. Otherwise I’d collapse under the stress.
Weekly Blog Posts
- FILM REVIEW – Hocus Pocus 2
For people of a certain age, Hocus Pocus holds a special place in our hearts. It’s such a fantastic film and I never get bored of it. So, I was both anxious and excited about the sequel. It’s been so long that I didn’t really see the point but I love the characters so much. Surely there would be some fun to it? Check out my review to see if the sequel lived up to the original.
- BOOK REVIEW – The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill
I’ve never been too sure about feminist retellings of fairy tales. I often find that they’re so hampered by the original story. A story that is basically a tool for the patriarchy. However, I’m always hopeful that they’ll work. Any chance for young women to get some decent feminist literature. Would Louise O’Neill be able to do it? Find out by reading my review.
- BOOK REVIEW – The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman
It’s been a while since I’ve written a most anticipated books of the year list but, had I written one for 2022, this book would have been on it. I have my issues with Richard Osman’s previous books but I still think they’ve been fun reads. So, I had to find out if the third would be as charming. The third book in a series is often tricky. Would Osman keep the series at the same level? Check out my review to find out.
Just Read
- The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill
An audiobook that I found at the library and one I thought sounded good. I was wary of reading another Louise O’Neill book because I’ve only ever been disappointed. I was willing to give this a chance though. Unfortunately, it didn’t deliver what I was hoping for. We live and we learn.
- The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman
I decided to try and fit in another short audiobook before the end of the month. I’ve seen a few people praise this one, so I gave it a chance. I have to be honest, it wasn’t for me. I just didn’t get on with it at all. It might just have been my mood at the time of listening but I didn’t really care what happened to anyone. I’m not even sure I have enough to say to fill a review.

I hate carrying books over from month to month but needs must. I’m hoping to finish this soon.
Book Haul
Only one new book this week. It’s the one we’ve chosen for our October book club that I’d almost forgotten about. Thankfully, I’ve still got a few weeks to read it but I thought I’d better buy it now.
- Bear by Marian Engel – The books we were choosing between all had an animal theme this month and this one sounds great. I can’t wait to get stuck in.

- Taskmaster – I’ve reached the end of series 3. Series 3 has never been my favourite but it was quite short. Now I’m on series 4 which has some of my favourite ever contestants. I can’t wait.
Holy smokes, you’re right. The entire first week is already gone! This year is bonkers as far as time passing by….
