What have you been reading this week?

How is February still going? It’s been longer than the pandemic at this point. Although, I still don’t appear to have done a lot of reading. According to Goodreads, I’ve read 6 books this month and I’ve just finished another. So, I guess I’m not doing that bad but it feels like a slow month all around. Hopefully, March will be better but who knows. I started 2021 on such a high that this feels disappointing.

• BOOK REVIEW –Stardust by Neil Gaiman

In an attempt to embrace Valentine’s Day, I decided to read a few romantically inclined novels this month. One of those was this Neil Gaiman classic. Although, it had never been one of my favourites. I had the audiobook narrated by the writer, so it wouldn’t be all bad, right? Check out my review to see if the reread changed my mind.

• FILM REVIEW – The King’s Man (2021)

I enjoyed the two previous films in the Kingsman franchise so I was probably looking forward to this prequel more than most people. Of course, there is always going to be a worry when they veer away from the original concept and introduce a new cast. Would this be as good as the rest? Check out my review to find out.

I actually managed to finish a few books this week and they were all a bit unusual. So, I decided to group them together in one post. What were they? What made them so different? You can see for yourself by reading my reviews.

Just Read

• Crushing by Sophie Burrows

This adorable and short graphic novel really was the perfect read for Valentine’s Day. It’s not romantic exactly but it does offer a look at the search for love. Those missed moments that could lead to something great. It’s just super cute and the illustrations are beautiful.

• Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony and Rodrigo Corral

I’ve been thinking about reading this for a while but I always worry that unoriginal books are going to be too gimmicky. For me, this book had way more potential than the final book. It just didn’t make use of the concept and the story wasn’t well developed. But it was an interesting experiment.

• Prairie Spirits by Alexis Marie Chute

A book all about two haunted buildings in Alberta, Canada. This book provides histories of the buildings, first-hand accounts and an open mind. It was a really interesting look into the people who believe they’ve come into contact with a ghost and the other side of the coin.

• Miss Aldridge Regrets by Louise Hare

Hopefully, by the time this is posted, I’ll have finally finished it. What an absolute travesty.
