Sunday Rundown – That’s What She Read

Sunday Rundown

What have you been reading this week?

It’s been a busy week at work so I haven’t been reading as much as last week but I’ve been doing okay. I have managed to finish another book and I should be able to get another one done before Wednesday. Well, that’s the plan anyway. As I know all too well, things never quite go according to plan. Of course, it hasn’t helped that it’s been raining on my breaks all week, which meant no chance to read outside. Instead, I’ve been wandering around the local shops. I even managed to pop into the independent book shop. Of course I bought a book but it could have been a lot more. I think I got a bit carried away with being surrounded by so many options again.

Weekly Blog Posts

  • BOOK REVIEW – Monsters by Emerald Fennell

I was really looking forward to reading this book so it was a great shame to have a bit of a slump as I was reading it. It took a really long time for me to get through it but I finally did last weekend. It wasn’t quite what I imagined it would be when I bought. But was it worse or better? Find out why by giving my review a quick read.

  • BOOK REVIEW – The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie

I managed to get another Agatha Christie in before the end of the month and what a book this is. I haven’t read this for a while. Certainly not since I watched the adaptation starring John Malkovich. You know, the adaptation that took major liberties with the text as if it wasn’t already dramatic enough. I understand why it happens but as if Christie doesn’t offer enough drama already. Find out why by giving my review a quick read.

  • TBT REVIEW – Shrek (2001)

The DreamWorks animated film is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, which is madness. For some reason, Shrek has captured the imagination of so many people. He’s been part of so many memes over the years and it doesn’t seem like the obsession is going anywhere soon. But what is it about this film that made it so special? I had to watch it again. If you’re feeling nostalgic, head over to my review.

Just Read

  • Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami

This was the May pick for our book club and I was excited to read it. It’s been on my radar for a long time. A really long time it turns out. After buying a new paperback edition, I discovered that I’d owned a Kindle copy since 2016. This is my major problem with Kindles. I forget what I’ve got on there and I’m always buying those 99p deals. It’s a bad combo.

Currently Reading

  • Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie

I needed a quick read to have something to review on Wednesday and what better than another Agatha Christie novel. Why this one? I’ve wanted to read this for a while and it seemed like the perfect time.

Book Haul

I went into a book shop this week and almost walked out with a whole heap of new books. Instead of spending way too much money, I managed to limit myself to just Circus of Wonders by Elizabeth Macneal. I missed out on the Special Edition from Waterstones but our local bookshop had a few copies. I had to grab one.

Recently Watched

  • TV:
    • ER– I’ve watched a few of these but I’m getting closer to the moment that Gallant dies and I can’t handle that heartbreak again. He’s such a sweetie.
  • Movies: Shrek 1, 2, and 3– I was looking for quick watches that wouldn’t lead to binges this week, so decided to watch the first 3 films in this series. They might not all be masterpieces but they’re easy watches.
