Sunday Rundown – That’s What She Read

books, films, rundown

How has your week been? What have you been reading?

So, last week was the first day of my mini holiday and this week it’s been my first day back. What a difference 7 days can make. I’m tired, annoyed, have a headache… basically it’s just shit. But it pays the bills. And, therefore, allows me to indulge my passion for book. Something that I’ve still not been allowing myself to do. This book buying ban is going better than it ever has before. Maybe I’ll be able to stop myself for most of the year and actually read the books I already own. For some of them, it’s about bloody time too!

Weekly Blog Posts

  • TUESDAY’S REVIEWS – The Favourite (2018)

So the list of Oscar nominees out and it’s quite a selection this year. Black Panther is another one I can cross off my list to watch as I enjoyed that last year. With Roma down and, this week, The Favourite, I now only have 4 films to watch. It should make it a much easier year than last year. But, unfortunately, I have got the ones I’m most excited about out-of-the-way early. It was The Favourite that I was most looking forward to most because my love for Olivia Colman runs deep. But, could it really be as fantastic as it seemed? Find out by my review here.

  • BOOK REVIEW – The Island of Doctor Moreau by H. G. Wells

I wasn’t sure that I’d do it but I managed to get another book finished this month. I’m on a bit of a roll at the moment and I just need to keep up the pace. If I start the year well then I can try to keep the habit going all year round. Then, finally, I can see a decrease in my list of unread books. Although, rereading this old favourite isn’t going to help that. But I had a real craving to give it another look. You can find my review here.

  • THROWBACK THURSDAY – The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (2011)

Continuing through the list of films I reviewed when I first started this blog and we’re at number 4. Although, I’d watched this film fairly recently so it didn’t have the same effect. I always look back on this film quite favourably and, once I remembered it was written by my beloved Edgar Wright, I was really excited to watch it. But was it really all that? Or was I just hopeful? To find out, click here.

Just Finished

  • The Island of Doctor Moreau by H. G. Wells

After a super late night reading session on Tuesday I finished rereading this classic piece of sci-fi. It’s been so long since I read any Wells and it was wonderful getting back into this weird and terrifying story. My review can be found on the blog using the link above.

Currently Reading

  • Ill Will by Michael Stewart

I started reading this after finishing Doctor Moreau but didn’t get too far with it. I just wasn’t in the mood to read last week. I took the holiday spirit a bit too far and embraced my laziness. So, yesterday I realised that I would never finish it by Wednesday and decided to put this aside for a bit. I was enjoying it enough but it wasn’t exactly gripping me. I’ll pick it up again.

  • Spy in the House of Love by Anais Nin

So, I made the choice to pick this book up instead. It’s sat on my shelf for a little while and I was always intrigued by it. And, most importantly, it’s short! Hopefully, I can get this done and write a post for Wednesday but we’ll see.

Recently Purchased

Am I looking smug? I should be because we’re over halfway through January and I’ve yet to buy a single book. Have I changed? No way. This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

  • Netflix Binges – Carmen SandiegoThe Crown
I’ve decided it’s time to start watching new shows on Netflix instead of just rewatching everything I’ve seen before. Starting with the new animated series Carmen Sandiego. I’m only a couple of episodes in but I’m really enjoying it. It’s fun and harmless television. Then, because I’m really looking forward to Olivia Colman taking on the role of Elizabeth II, I decided it was time to start watching The Crown. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it yet but I’ve not stopped watching since I started earlier tonight. We’ll see how it goes.
