Sunday Rundown – That’s What She Read

img_4240

So how has your week been? What have you been reading?

Tonight I watched my first Netflix original Christmas film of 2018 so I guess that means it’s officially Christmas now, right? It was no A Christmas Prince but it was still everything I’ve come to expect from the streaming service’s own brand movies. I want to try to write a review at some point but I’m a week ahead of myself. So it might take a while but we’ll get there. This week is all about Fantastic Beasts 2. A film that I have a lot of thoughts about so I’m wondering how it’s best to put them out into the world. I feel like a normal review could go on and on and on and on and on. So, we’ll see what happens there.

Weekly Blog Posts

  • TUESDAY’S REVIEWS – They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)

When it comes down to it, my sense of humour hasn’t really aged at the same rate as I have. I still find the same things funny now that I did when my age was only in single digits. So, the Johnny English films really speak to the child in me. Meaning I’ve been secretly excited to see the third one for some time, even though I was well aware of how terrible it would be. To find out if my childish heart found reason to be joyful read my review here.

  • BOOK REVIEW – Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata

In order to keep my review streak going I had a mad dash around a charity book shop to find a quick book. I was lucky enough to find one that I could read in a day and that has been on my to buy list for ages. It seemed like everything was coming together for something wonderful. To find out if it lived up then read on here.

  • THROWBACK THIRTY – Miracle Mile 1988)

This TBT thing is nearing the end and, rather than watching the decent film from 1988 as I should, I’m just trying to find the more ridiculous ones. This was one of the less outrageous and had pretty decent reviews. But, from my point of view, it was just that guy from ER trying to outrun a nuclear war and that seemed pretty weird. Find out how it fared in my review here.

  • Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata

Bought Tuesday afternoon and finished after work on Wednesday. Not the most value for money in terms of reading time but at least I finished a damn book this week. As you’ll already have read, I reviewed this on Wednesday so check it out using the link above.

Currently Reading

  • The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I’m so glad I started this book. I love it. My only issue is that I’ve been reading so slowly this week. Nothing to do with this but everything to do with work stresses. I’m all in it now and am desperate to finish this in the next few days. I can hopefully do it if I concentrate.

Recently Purchased

I’ve been pretty good this week and, considering how often I’ve walked past George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood, it really was a struggle.

  • Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata – As I’ve already mentioned a thousand times this post, I bought this so I’d have something to review last Wednesday. I found it in my local charity shop and the cover is beautiful. I’ve already forced it onto my friend to read.

Recently Watched
  • Netflix Binges – It’s Always Sunny, The Office,
I always forget what I’ve watched when I write these rundowns, which is probably an indication of how passively I’m consuming them. It makes me feel guilty because I should be spending that time reading. But I’ve been so tired lately that I just can’t focus on books. I’ve fallen asleep mid-chapter too many times this week. It’s all this fucking stress. I just need a couple of good nights sleep and I’ll reboot. Hopefully.
