My days off are quickly becoming days that pass me by in a haze of nothing. I still have some holidays to use up before the end of the “year” so I had the weekend off. I’ve done nothing. I haven’t even finished the book I intended to have done by now. If I’m honest I expected to have it finished last month but the end of February just got away from me. Netflix is a great thing but it really is ruining my social life. Still, it could be worse I guess. I just wish I could split my time between binge watching and reading. Then these rundowns wouldn’t be so bloody repetitive.
- The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker
I’m so close to finishing this book and I’m so fucking annoyed that I’m still reading. It’s got to that stage where it’s been so long that I just want to read something new but I know if I do that I’ll never finish. I love this book but it’s a bit convoluted. The narrative is complex and the characters are well written but it feels a little self-indulgent in a way that a debut novel sometimes can. It’s collapsing under the weight of everything it’s trying to be. Like every potential plot point got caught up in the excitement and was just piled on top of each other. I really want to finish it though. The writing is excellent and the two main characters are excellently realised.
- The Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanna Barbot de Villenueve
I’ve been pretty good and only bought one book this week. It’s a book I’ve seen on Instagram a lot and couldn’t resist buying any longer. Especially as it coincides with an upcoming photo prompt for one of my March challenges. Yes, I know buying books just for photos a stupid habit to get into but it’s not like I wasn’t going to buy it eventually. It’s a beautiful book and I’m a sucker for an interactive book. It makes me feel like a kid again. Plus, I’ve never read the original story by Villenueve. I’m more familiar with the simplified version rewritten by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont. So I can justify the purchase… just.
I’ve been wanting to see it for months and now I finally have. Want to know what I thought? Check out my Tuesday Review
for this week.
In need of a TBT post for this week I decided to indulge my love of silly Christopher Guest films and rewatched this mockumentary about a dog show. Never seen it? Check out my review here
Holy. Shit. I still can’t get over this. Hopefully my thoughts will be more cohesive when I finally post my review of this for my upcoming Tuesday Review.
- Netflix binges: Project Runway
Whilst pursuing the offerings of Netflix this weekend I came across two random seasons of this show. I’d never seen it before but, being a one-time huge ANTM fan, I decided it was worth a go. I watched a season a day over the weekend and I’m obsessed. I love this show and now have a, misguided, belief that I understand fashion.
